Rising Sun Research Delivers cineSpace™ to India's Redchillies.vfx

Color calibration solution was used on blockbuster Bollywood feature Om Shanti Om

ADELAIDE, Australia, January 8, 2008: Rising Sun Research, a developer of solutions for improving digital visual workflows, has announced that Mumbai, India-based visual effects house Redchillies.vfx has taken delivery of a cineSpace™ color management system.

The system has already been used to calibrate color and help manage workflow on the Bollywood feature Om Shanti Om. The film — a dramatic romance that unfolds within the Bollywood movie community — was produced by Redchillies.vfx parent company Redchillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, which is owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

cineSpace™ provides a flexible, accurate solution to color management pipeline challenges. It has been widely adopted in film and television workflows by facilities of all sizes around the world and has become the de facto standard for monitor calibration in visual effects.

"We are delighted to announce this delivery," said Jeremy Pollard, Vice President of Sales, Rising Sun Research. "Redchillies.vfx is a state-of-the-art visual effects studio. Their deployment of cineSpace will help build momentum for our system in India and all of South Asia."

"We used cineSpace extensively on Om Shanti Om," said Keitan Yadav, Chief Operating Officer, Redchillies.vfx. "We have a great working relationship with Shah Rukh and his production company. He has a deep understanding of film technology and the creative process behind visual effects. This new color management system from Rising Sun Research really contributed to a smooth workflow on this latest film."

Om Shanti Om was produced by Redchillies Entertainment and directed by Farah Khan. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, and was released November 9 on an unprecedented 2000 plus screens worldwide.

"Adding cineSpace to our arsenal of tools has already boosted us to a new level of creativity and quality," added Yadav. "It puts us at the forefront of cutting-edge visual effects work and allows us to chase film effects jobs from outside of India that are looking for a studio that is not only cost-effective but also at the forefront of technology."

While it is owned by Redchillies Entertainment, Redchillies.vfx operates independently. It works not only on projects of its parent company but also on other creative projects from the Bollywood community, plus assignments coming in from international markets.

The sale of cineSpace™ to Redchillies.vfx was made by F/X Graphics, Rising Sun Research's reseller in India. "I'm confident that the cineSpace system will fulfill all the needs of this important facility," said Vivek Malhotra, founder of F/X Graphics. "It will boost the already stellar creativity at Redchillies.vfx, and will also contribute to their efficiencies as they move forward."

The cineSpace™ suite delivers precise calibration across a wide range of systems and applications, providing accurate matching to broadcast standards and print film output. It comprises several applications that work together to bring consistency to film and television workflow, and combines plug-in and LUT support for a host of industry tools with powerful standalone features, making it simple to achieve display consistency within all types of color pipelines.

These features include cineProfiler™, equalEyes™, cinePlugins™ and cineCube™. cineProfiler™ measures accurate profiles of all displays and is ready for loading into the calibration tools. equalEyes™ is a standalone tool that lets users match a single monitor or an entire facility to the reference color space. cinePlugins™ provide cineSpace™ support for Shake, Nuke, Fusion and Film Master, allowing full 3D color transforms. And cineCube™ enables the production of 3D LUTs for precise film calibration.

In addition, cineSpace™ is packaged with a set of standard target profiles, which include a range of video standards and a selection of film stock samples that customers can use to custom-profile their own unique film-out path, eliminating guesswork and optimizing results. The system is designed to save time and money, allowing artists to view and manipulate frames on their workstation monitors and digital projectors in a near-perfect representation of how they will appear when output to film. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and IRIX systems.
