da Vinci Systems announces cineSpace™ integration

Integration of cineSpace™ technology with Resolve digital mastering suite

CORAL SPRINGS, USA, September 8, 2006: da Vinci Systems has announced the latest cineSpace™ color management option is available for Resolve, allowing those working in a Digital Intermediate (DI) workflow to view on-screen colors precisely as they will look when printed on film. Integration of this state-of-the-art color management technology provides Resolve DI artists the confidence that their color enhancements will precisely translate onto film in a way that matches the director of photography's creative vision.

"cineSpace delivers confidence," said Jeremy Pollard, vice president of sales at Rising Sun Research. "By providing a precise on-screen view of the final film output, cineSpace ensures that colorists can trust their color decisions, which translates to time and money savings. We are pleased to be collaborating with da Vinci Systems, who continues to lead the way in providing state-of-the-art image and color enhancement products to post-production facilities worldwide."

cineSpace™, a product of Rising Sun Research, uses a probe for CRT or LCD displays, or a scope for reflective-type displays such as projectors, to take the necessary measurements for accurate grading monitor characterization within a facility. To close the loop, test images from Resolve are sent to the end user's choice of film lab where they are exposed, printed, and then sent to Rising Sun Research for characterization of the lab's print process. Subsequently, a custom film profile is created and returned to the customer. When the profile is loaded into Resolve and used to generate an accurate 3D LUT, display devices then accurately reflect the film lab printing process. This closed-loop process ensures that during grading, what a colorist sees will be the same in the final print.

"With the cineSpace option for Resolve, there is no doubt that what you see is what you get," said Bill Robertson, general manager at da Vinci Systems. "It gives Resolve users the confidence of knowing that when they make color corrections, they will translate accurately to the final print. There's no guesswork involved in color management, making proper results really happen for those working in the DI process."

Starting with Resolve v.3.4 software, the cineSpace option is available on all Resolve configurations. Learn more about cineSpace™ and other products from da Vinci Systems at www.davsys.com.
